Week 2 of the 2018 NFL season continues on Sunday with the largest single day slate of games of the campaign so far. There will be 28 teams in action across 14 games today, starting with a barrage of nine kickoffs in the 1 p.m. ET time slot, followed by four late afternoon matchups and wrapping up in primetime with a much-anticipated NFC East showdown between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants.
Both the G-Men and Cowboys are hoping to bounce back from not only disappointing 2017 seasons, in which they each missed the playoffs, but also from ugly losses in their respective openers last week. Big Blue was felled by the Jacksonville Jaguars after a late pick-six sunk their chances of the upset, while America’s Team mustered just a single scoring drive in a rough defeat to the Carolina Panthers. One of these squads will get back to .500 this evening on Sunday Night Football, while the side on the losing end will find itself in a dire situation and staring down another potential lost season. The stakes are high to say the least, which should make for some thrilling football in front of a national TV audience.
Oddsmakers are expecting a closely contested battle, opening betting with Dallas as a three-point favorite. It’s the 15th consecutive time that the spread has been less than a touchdown in a Cowboys-Giants matchup, a streak that dates back to 2010. In that span, however, there have nine contests that were decided by a touchdown or more, including a pair of convincing Dallas wins—19-3 in Week 1 and 30-10 in Week 14—during the 2017 season. The books aren’t projecting too much scoring tonight, setting the over/under at 43 points. The last four bouts between these squads have gone under that total.
Can the G-Men find a way to not only cover the spread, but also outright upset a bitter rival , or will the Boys come through with a big win at home in primetime?
