Finding a bar for a birthday party in NYC usually takes three phone calls and ends with a fee nobody mentioned. Here’s how it works at The Winslow. You pick a space that suits your headcount, agree a minimum spend on food and drink, and that’s the deal. There’s no room fee on top, and what your guests order counts toward the minimum.
We’re at 243 East 14th Street, between Union Square and the East Village. That’s easy for a crowd coming from all over the city: the L stops at 3rd Avenue, 3 minutes from Union Square. We’re also open until 4 AM on Friday and Saturday, so the birthday doesn’t have to end when the booking does. More on that on our late night page.

Bring the cake
Cake or cupcakes are the only outside food we allow, with a $20 flat cake fee. Everything else comes from our kitchen.
Decorate the room
Balloons, banners and signs are welcome, and you get 15 minutes between reservations to set up. No glitter or confetti, and nothing stuck to the Back Room wallpaper.
Name a drink after them
Give us notice and we can rename a cocktail after the birthday guest, or an inside joke, on a printed drinks menu they can take home.
Order party food ahead
Party food from our menu needs 72 hours' notice. Tell us your headcount and we'll help you work out how much to order.
Let guests run their own tabs
The minimum doesn't have to land on one check. Everything your group orders counts toward it.
Stay longer if it's going well
A booking holds your space for 3 hours. Each extra hour adds $100 to the minimum spend.
21st, 30th, 40th and beyond
A 30th wants something different from a 21st. Some groups want a long sit-down dinner in the Back Room. Others would rather stand around the high tops with a drink and keep moving. Both work here.

One practical note: we’re 21 and over every night from 9 PM, and everyone needs a physical ID. Remind your guests. The friend who left their license at home will be celebrating from the sidewalk.

How much does a birthday party at The Winslow cost?
There's no room fee. You agree a minimum spend on food and drink: $300 for the Nook, $500 for the Banquette Seating Section, $700 for the Back Room, $900 for the Communal High Top Area and $1,200 with the Middle Pillar added. Tax, gratuity and card fees are on top.
Which space is best for a group of 20?
For a sit-down group, the Back Room (seats 18 to 20) or the Banquette Seating Section (seats up to 20). If people will stand and mingle, the Back Room holds 25 to 30.
Can we bring our own birthday cake?
Yes. Cake or cupcakes are the only outside food allowed, with a $20 flat cake fee.
Can we just show up with a big group?
We don't take table reservations, so a group that walks in takes its chances, especially on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Booking a space is the only way to guarantee room.
What happens if we cancel?
Cancelling within 5 days of your party, or falling short of the minimum, carries a fee: $50 for the Nook, $100 for the Banquette and Middle Pillar, and $150 for the Back Room or Communal High Top Area.
